I'm just completing a package called lnxforward, which does compressed
forwarding to FBB. It runs under Linux. It's designed as a mail hub system,
so (unlike TSTHOST etc) you'd be defined to your local systems as a BBS.
However, I think it'd do what you want. Together with Hessu's mailgw
package, it interfaces to smtp/nntp. In addition, it has a web interface
that allows browsing and posting bulletins or personal messages from a
browser to a web server.
Here, I read all bulletins with Netscape, and all mail with Eudora (I have
a windows PC acting as a client to my Linux box).
If you're interested, e-mail me and I'll tell you where to get the beta
(just so I know who's using it!) It's been running here for several months
in development mode, and in fact handles the bulk of VK5's @WW feed.
