In defense of the column, I would point out that QST has for decades labeled
their columnists "conductors" rather than "authors." If people don't send in
interesting stuff, then the conductor is not entirely to blame. Sure, there is
a difference between a good conductor and a bad conductor, and it is hard to
satisfy the wide range of readers who see QST, but ultimately it is up to the
people who are active in the particular area covered by the column to
contribute items, suggestions, short notes, and so forth.
