Hi Mark,
If you are using your system as a "radio ported" system, and not directly
connected to the internet, you can take advantage of your "smart smtp
gateway" and just have every email sent there for distribution. This is
easily done in /etc/sendmail.cf as follows:
Near the top of the actual start of config lines, find the line:
# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DSsmtp:vk3blw-1.ampr.org <--add this line.
#
This will cause every smtp mail to go to vk3blw-1 for handling. "EVERY"
email...
You could also try the following as an alternative. the next config line is
the one I use, and it is pretty self-explanatory. (I'd try it first)
# place to which unknown users should be forwarded
#Kuser user -m -a<>
#DLname_of_luser_relay
DLw0plw.ampr.org <--insert your server here..
#
w0plw is my Jnos/Linux and it is smart enough to know how to handle replies
to bulletins, off-the-wall pmails through the bbs, etc.
I want to also comment on addressing of your email sent to vk3blw. It is
not a fully qualified domain as typed above. Unless you have a alias in
your address book in pine, or an alias in /etc/hosts, there is not much
chance for qualifying vk3blw-1. I suggest that you use the full address of
the party you wish to send mail to, e.g. "ngg@hansaton.de".
One more thing. In the Pine setup/configuration menu is an item:
[ ] quell-user-lookup-in-passwd-file
I set this item on my system. You can read the help on this by entering the
setup/configuration on Pine, scroll to this line, then hit "?" for the help
blurb on this. Makes sense to me, so I check it.
I hope this helps, Mark.
