Someting is not right here, a correct arp entry should look like:
callsign.ampr.org (44.145.0.9) at OZ4KK-2 [ax25] on ax0

Do you have know hosts entered into /etc/hosts ?
Do you have any enteries at all in /etc/hosts ?
Is your /etc/resolv.conf pointing to localhost ?
Does your system resolve domainnames from a nameserver ?
Is your hostname set correctly, (it might sound silly but!).
