Nothing bizarre about using netrom nodes as they are intended to
be used. If you are setting the initial quality very low and then by hand
setting "good routes", your not using netrom, your using a manual switch
that requires WORK.

I am not sure of the MTU effect on actual packets. I think you
wind up sending complete packets to the node, at perhaps a reduced rate.
