Linux-Hams archive - February 1998: DNS within the ampr.org domain
DNS within the ampr.org domain

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can give me some hints as to how I
should set up DNS on my system. As yet, we don't have a gateway in the
local area; we submitted a proposal to my local college a couple of
weeks ago and are currently awaiting a reply.
What I want is to use CNAME and MX and things so that eg. typing lynx
http://www.m1cjd.ampr.org/ or ftp ftp.m1cjd.ampr.org or mail
jhfr.jcpmpa@bsbbs.com will all get aliased to the relevant linux box on
my network. I actually have this working correctly at home, with named
running on one of my boxes doing all of the above. Basically, what I
want to know is, how do I make it so that the same will work from
anywhere in the ampr.org domain once I am connected to the network via
the gateway we have planned. Can I just submit an entry for
m1cjd.ampr.org as the IP of the gateway on my local network, and let
named on my system provide the final resolution of the name (anything
under the m1cjd.ampr.org domain)?
73s, Alex.
