I am setting up a new gateway system for VK6DLX. It's almost finished but
I'd appreciate some help on the following:
1. Can somebody tell me what /proc/sys/net/ax25/ax0/connect_mode does?
According to the ax25-HOWTO, the connect_mode parameter can be set to 0 or
1 and I think it is supposed to default to 1. On my system it seems to be
defaulting to "2". I can't find a full explanation of what the parameter
does. I think the choice of datagram or connected mode is covered by
another proc entry so it must be something else.
2. I have inetd.conf set up to NOT use tcp_wrappers (tcpd), to avoid having
the system do DNS lookups for very telnet or ftp connection. Initially it
worked fine - I could telnet from another box on the ethernet and get
instant response. Then I configured a domain server in /etc/resolve.conf
and every telnet connection attempt then resulted in a DNS lookup attempt.
I have now put most of the local hosts in /etc/hosts and this has overcome
the delay. The question is now, why does the system want to resolve a host
name for each incoming connection request?
3. My other box at home is set up for datagram mode TCP. I can telnet over
the radio to my local bbs (VK6BBS) but after I close the telnet connection
netstat -n still shows an ax25 port connected to VK6BBS and there are
regular exchanges between the boxes I guess to keep the link alive. What
do I need to do to completely close the connection?
I am using Linux 2.0.31 (patched) and utils 2.1.42a.
