First I suggest you sign up for the "linux-newbie" sig at the same
place as this sig. The linux-newbie covers better the real new but *REAL*
Questions that you have for the first year of linux operation.

A high percentage of people don't get that far before quitting in
frustration.

There is a lot of documentation already on your computer in file
form. Look in /usr/doc and /usr/src/linux/Documentation and the man pages.
You learn about the man pages by typing man man...

It's the kernel that loads your ide cd-rom. My guess is your
kernel is setup to load the cd-rom but you need to tell your system where
it is.

At the prompt type df. That shows you all the hard drive space and
use. Next type fdisk and then p and that shows you your partitions.

Use your fingers in an XTERM window to move around in your linux.
Have fun and it will be slow. Take your time.
