That's old enough that it doesn't have KISS in the firmware. You have two
choices:
1) Purchase or make a KISS eprom. The JKISS image included in the G8BPQ
package is a favorite of many, but others are available. Check
ftp.ucsd.edu or ftp.tapr.org.
2) Update to a newer version of MFJ, TAPR, Paccomm firmware (or
TheFirmware) which supports KISS. To do this, you will also need to
increase the SRAM from 16K to 32K.
Your TNC is old enough that it might have the MF-10 filter. If so, that
should be removed, as it is ineffectual when used at the bias levels of
the TNC-2.
