Terry & Alan, thanks for your input. I did find the
problem. The firewall got me. I have not needed to touch
the firewall in so long I forgot all about its purpose !.
Don't let address pass where they are not supposed to be. I
changed to the new ax25 utils which DO NOT use the sl0
interfaces they now use ax0. My firewall had not been
updated for the new ax0 port it was still set for the sl0.

I hope this might help others but I doubt many are as
forgetful as I am. :-(
