For KISS AX.25, You are supposed to kissattach (in the 2.1 or module
series), or axattach (in the 2.0 series). For slip, you should slattach.
You must do that before you can ifconfig...

Network devices don't generally have special files attached to them,
since applications use the socket interface to talk to them.
