OK, good info. I tried to ping one of the IPs on my network (after
correcting the broadcast address - thanks Richard) and I see this on the
console running "listen -a":

Port radio: AX25: N8XS-1->QST <UI> pid=ARP
ARP: len 30 hwtype AX25 prot IP op REQUEST
sender IPaddr 44.71.38.26 hwaddr N8XS-1
target IPaddr 44.71.38.4

I do not get a ping return and my /sbin/ifconfig now looks like this:

ax0 Link encap:AMPR AX.25 HWaddr N8XS-1
inet addr:44.71.38.26 Bcast:44.71.38.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MTU:512 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:75 dropped:0 overruns:0
TX packets:39 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

Looks like I am transmitting OK, but am getting all errors on the receive.
Which leads to....

Are there any "rule of thumb" parameters for txtail, slottime, persist and
txdelay? And how do I determine what my TNC is set for currently so I can
have a baseline to depart from? Also, what's the scoop on setting the TNC
into full or half duplex?

Thanks again and 73,
