1) New 2.0.32 kernel patched with ax25-2.0.31-2.1.47-2.diff, compiled and booted
2) Newest utilities (ax25-utils-2.1.42a) compiled and installed.
3) KPC3+ connected to Cyclades port /dev/ttyC6 and to my Kenwood TM-261A
with the volume and squelch set correctly. All cabling working.
4) KPC3+ set to KISS mode
5) ampr.org IP numbers assigned from the local coordinator
6) I set up my /etc/ax25/axports file with only one line that looks like this:
radio N8XS-1 1200 255 2 144.910 MHz (1200 bps)
7) Then I activated the port:
[root@wisdom src]# /usr/sbin/kissattach -i 44.71.38.26 -l -m 512 /dev/ttyC6
radio
AX.25 port radio bound to device ax0
[root@wisdom src]# /sbin/route add -net 44.71.38.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 ax0
It seems to have worked as part of my results from ifconfig look like this:
ax0 Link encap:AMPR AX.25 HWaddr N8XS-1
inet addr:44.71.38.26 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP RUNNING MTU:512 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
Now my question:
Is this the complete procedure to configure an ax25 port and should it be
running now? If I go to another host and try to ping this IP address, I get:
[hamm@shell hamm]$ ping 44.71.38.26
PING 44.71.38.26 (44.71.38.26): 56 data bytes
--- 44.71.38.26 ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
I suspect that the local network is not running correctly, but before I go
whine to the coordinator I wanted to make sure I have all my i's dotted and
t's crossed.
Thanks for all the help and support so far.
