Ah, gee, I never heard of that mailing list before. I was going nuts about
this, I posted to the linux-hams group back when the problem first
developed (June or so) and I have posted to the tcp list and to various
rec.radio.* newsgroups with almost no useful feedback, and only one case
where it seemed someone saw the same problem.
A meta-problem -- how does one find out about newsgroups like that?
Anyway, thanks, I will write to Mike. I hope I can find a solution that
allows me to keep a full-function EPROM, I still have uses for ordinary
packet.
