Hi,

This is not an answer to your main question, because I haven't yet got
radio networking set up again since I upgraded to kernel 2.0.30 on my home
system, but I was interested to see you are using a KPC 3+.

I had serious problems with a KPC3+ in KISS mode. I corresponded with
Kantronics and they did not recognize the problem or have a solution. I
found one other ham, in Holland, who reported a similar problem, but he
wasn't able to help me resolve it. I have encountered a lot of confusion
in attempts to ask about this on the net, people write with suggestions
and tell me they have no problem, then it turns out they have the old KPC3
and don't realize the KPC3+ is a totally reworked design, with a different
processor.

The problem I see is this: After a variable period of operation it locks
up in a tight loop feeding garbage to the serial port. This happens with
any software (JNOS or GRINOS under MS-DOS, TNOS or ax25 kernel support
under Linux). I have tested with an old KPC3 in the same configurations,
no problem, and I have done these tests on two diffferent systems, a 486
and a Pentium. The KPC3+ is the common element.

I'd like to hear from you (or anyone) with experience using the KPC3+ in
KISS mode. I last inquired on this list back in June and July, perhaps
there is more experience with this unit now.

My KPC3+ has a version 7.0 ROM, as far as I know it is current, at least
Kantronics hasn't mentioned otherwise in my correspondence. My suspicion
is that there is a bug in the firmware which probably had to be ported
from one type of CPU to another.
