That is "humor" which maybe you misunderstood.

Anyway, in the welcome message of linux-hams which you recieve when you
subscribe, it ask's you to RTFM first before asking questions, nobody will
moan at you if you do this first.

Biff also does that, but you asked about fetchmail, starting fetchmail
without options will result in exachtly the way you described.
