You're right, there is a patch. The original 2.0.3x kernel sources do
not contain the latest AX.25 stuff. You have to apply a patch named
ax25-module-14e, that is available for example on
ftp://ftp.pspt.fi/pub/ham/linux/ax25/ax25-module-14e.tar.gz.
After applying the patch, make menuconfig will offer you an option for
KISS and for packet via soundcards as well. In addition to the patch, you
need the corresponding AX.25-Utilites. They can be found on the same site
in the same directory. The name of the file is ax25-utils-2.1.42a.tar.gz.
