You could always compile it on a fast machine at home and FTP it to the
site. I can easily get 80 bytes per second transfer rate if I connect
direct(no nodes) . It would take hour and 45 minutes I could transfer a
500k compressed kernel. I imagine most kernels for remote sites would be
smaller.

The only problem would be some type of secure login. There is skey for
telnet but I don't know if there is an equivalent for FTP.
