Yeah everyone gets this, don't worry about it. It has something to do with
initialising the timers. If you get lots of these, it might be due to
running high speeds on a slow computer.

Successfully transmit so that others can decode you or just key the PTT?

I suspect it is the clocking parameters. The unmodified PT driver will work
with a internally clocked 4800bd modem on port A and externally clocked
modem on port B. If this is not your configuration change the #defines in
/usr/src/linux/drivers/net/pt.c
