Don't scare em to bad, a 16MB machine will work well, though yes,
it will be slower on the compile than a 32MB machine. I am not shure
about what there is for traffic down there (everything is 1200, with a
little 9600 up here) but a huge machine is not needed. I would not
reccomend it for a standalone machine, but I had a Linux/TNOS running on a
386SX16 w/ 4MB and a 40meg HD. It was not fast, and recompiling the
kernel took 14 hrs (I did this once!), but it was able to handle 3 1200bd
ports, + 30 wormholes, etc. The machine never dropped under 60% idle even
when batching all those packet messages.

Agreed, running a standalone machine (compiles everything itself)
with INN (NOT a small setup) requires more, but a 486/66 w/ 16megs and a
350MB (or larger depending on specific conditions) would be a reasonable
system.

As to stability, there is the program and the system. xfbb I
cannot speak for, I use TNOS. Linux however, I can. I just took down a
machine (site move), 486 Overdrive 75, 12MB mem, 540 meg disk. It is a w3
server, Mysql DB server, SMTP, NFS, and POP3 system. 176 days with no
errors, between the servers and the rc5 client is was never idle. I found
it amusing watching the eth0 packet counts increase by the billion. :)

Back under a 1.3.x kernel I had a system up for 300+ days before a
long power failure downed it.
