Ease of use is a serious issue. This is a Unix-oriented mailing list, but that
does not mean that we should consider obscurity to be a design goal.

One perfectly legitimate justification for adding a prompt is whether it would
minimize confusion. People expecting a prompt now are very confused by its
absence, but would people expecting its absence be confused by its presence?

We should not turn this into a "secret handshake" where those already in the
know are the only ones not confused.
