At the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) Linux 2.0.30 has
been running a link to the National Engineering University using Linux
since August. I don't remember the exact version of the ax stuff, but it
was the latest available when experiments began with replacing JNOS on
MS-DOS with Linux back in June or July.
This is not exactly an answer to your question, because the link in
Nicaragua is not offering bbs service, it mostly functions for mail, tcp,
and light ftp use. But at least the basic IP service using Linux kernel
ax.25 support is working well, with reboots necessary only for system
changes or when there is a power failure that exceeds the capacity of the
UPS.
That said, I would recommend scheduling periodic reboots using cron, just
to make sure everything gets reset to a known state every once in a while.
A scheduled 5 minute down time once a week or even once a day in the very
early morning shouldn't bother users if they expect it.
