My main concern was: Does minicom work, and it does.
Knowing that for a fact insured that I should be looking for a
hardware problem and not a software problem. Found the problem(s) and
now ( so far ) everything is good.

By the way, I'm using ttyS1 at this time.

Thanks for the ( in hindsight ) excellent advice. I sometimes forget ..
One step at a time.

>If you still have problems, let us know with a *detailed* description

No problems now, other than a dearth of packet stations in this
part of upstate NY. The local coordinator of IP addresses ( about 40
mile from here ) issued 44.69.196.17 to me and gave me the impression
that 17 is all he's ever issued.

I been running listen -a for the last 40 hours and have heard only one
other station broadcasting on the local digital repeater !! and his
system
would not accept a connect from mine. I feel like I'm on a desert island

However, my /etc/ax25d.conf at this time has only

[KB6FST VIA radio1]
NOCALL * * * * * * L
default * * * * * * - root /usr/local/sbin/ttylinkd ttylinkd

Everything else I commented out for now until I figure out what the
above exactly means. One thing I know for sure is that I do not have
ttylinkd on my system. What is it and Where should I get it ??

Also, should I start Net/Rom ? I know the answer is probably yes, but
I'm not confident that I know what I'm doing. For what it's worth, once
this thing is up and running properly it will rarely be down.

Thanks again all for your help and patience.
