It sounds like either EMI or the power source.

The best approach is to divide and conquer.. and don't assume anything!

1. Verify that your serial cable is good USING AND OHM METER not another
peripheral.

2. Try reducing power. Try turning off the xmitt
If this works you most likely have and EMI problem. Is your serial
cable shielded?
Measure the VSWR at the ht and at the amp. is it <1.2.

3. Try resetting KAM. If this fixes it for a while see step 4.

4. Make sure the PS for the KAM is working correctly. I have
found that the KAMs are picky about their power source. I have
seen mine do the same stuff and lock up when my power source was a
cheap
brick that did not put out enough voltage.

So what .. Just because a light bulb worked before it burned
out doesn't mean it will work after.

You could have a bad ram/prom chip or socket. Take your KAM to a friends
house and try it out. It could be that once it connects it
access a bad memory location.

5, Try a different TNC.
