First, these questions are not linux-ham issues. They don't quite touch
the ax.25 or ham radio related parts of Linux (they're quite a few layers
up from the ax.25 network device layer). I'd suggest you to ask some
mail-related newsgroup instead, or the linux-newbie mailing list.

Not much, if you have installed the 'sendmail' package of your RedHat,
Debian, or Slackware. Or an equivalent like 'smail' or 'zmailer'. That
should do. You don't tell us which distribution you use, or which mailer
you'd like to use, so we cannot give any more specific answers. But
please, go ask linux-newbie or some mail-related group.

It is bounced. Sent back to the sender. Naturally.

Yes, you can easily forward one address to another, but messages to
non-existant users are sent back. See /etc/aliases (if you're using
sendmail). It might be in some other directory, depending on your
installation.

Use some MUA which knows POP, like Netscape. Or popclient to fetch the
mailbox to a local file, and some other program like Pine or Elm to read
from that file. POP server is the pop3d, ipop3d or in.pop3d. It is started
from inetd, see /etc/inetd.conf.
