it would seem logical that this is true for all interfaces, and as I
understand it, it is certainly true of ethernet and ax interfaces.

I can't help you with your questions, but at least looking at the route.c
file, it looks like Alan Cox, and Jonathan Naylor have been there, so
I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to get the info you need.
