Why not get a license? I don't know about the UK, but in the US, it's maybe
$10 US to get a study guide and $5 US for a test. A lot cheaper than any non-licensed setup.

Alternatively, and considerably more expensive, are both 10GHz and
Infra-Red links - prices about £10,000 - I won't go on any more :-(

10 GHz is an amateur band, so without a license, that's out. Infrared is
strictly line-of-sight.
