Hello,

Please be aware that I am a complete NEWBIE to anything with any unix/linux
operating system.

I have been able to install slackware v3.2 on my system, kernel 2.0.29.

It appears to be working, I can use minicom to access COM1 (ttyS0) for
modem or packet activities.

I have installed a kernel (2.0.29) with the suggested AX25 options in the
AX25-HOWTO document.

I have installed net-tools-1.32-alpha.tar.gz and ax25-utils.2.0.12c.tar.gz
also as per the HOWTO.

Set up # /etc/ax25/axports to be.......

radio vk3jma-0 9600 256 2 144.900MHz

I had to create the /etc/ax25 directory, it was not there after the
"make install" from the ax25-utils....

Now to my problem.....

When doing the step.......

# /usr/sbin/axattach /dev/ttyS0 radio

I get the response......

vk3jma:/usr/sbin# axattach /dev/ttyS0 radio
ERROR 'sl0' busy and not MOD_IN_USE.
axattach: SIOCSIFHWADDR: Invalid argument

Where to from here?

Help very much appreciated.

regards

Mark
