Netmask Broadcast etc

Hi all, one subject that has befuddled me since day 1 is that of
NETMASKS and BROADCASTS. So far I have managed to "fudge" my way
through various setup, settling for any solution that works. This
undoubtedly is not the recommended approach.!

Access to the internet is via a 56 RF link, this link is handled by a
JNOS box (the only reason it's a JNOS box, is that I cant get the 56k
interface to run on the linux boxes due to H/W incompatabilities)
this box has the address of 44.135.96.23

I also have had allocated a16 address block of 44.135.97.16 through
44.135.97.31 (note the JNOS box address in not a typo, it is .96. the
block is .97.)

The block of addreses is used on 3 machines around the house, on
linux, tnos, dxcluster Windows 95 (sorry!!) etc etc

Don't know if the above is enough to go on, what values should be
used for netmask, broadcast etc in Linux

Thanks
