No need, an entry like [VHF1] will accept that callsign which is defined in
axports.
I have in axports,

scc3 PA3GCU 4800 256 4 430.8375 MHz

and in ax25d.conf

[SCC3]
default * * * * * 8 - root /usr/sbin/node node scc3

So now when a connection is heard on scc3 for pa3gcu then the node program
is invoked.
Many people have different ideas about callsing allocation.

Becuase ax25d does not control the device, it listens just for what you
specify.
