You're mistaken. The module-* patches upgrade the AX.25 part of the
2.0 kernel to the level of the 2.1 kernels. After the module-* patch has
been applied, you have to use 2.1 utilities, including kissattach.

This applies to the 2.0 kernels too. With the 2.1 code (module
patches...) you shouldn't need SLIP support any more.

Anyway, it looks like the kernel in question doesn't want to support
attaching KISS devices... Richard, are you sure you're running the kernel
you just compiled? Did you enable 'Radio network interfaces' and 'Serial
port KISS driver for AX.25' in the 'Network device support' section of the
kernel config?
