HK-21 and a new PROM?

I know that this is not the correct list to post this to, so if someone
can point me in the right direction and/or provide any information I would
appreciate it...

I own a Heath HK-21 Pocket Packet TNC. This TNC only supports
the AX.25 protocol and nothing else. My question is this:

Considering that the TNC has a TMPZ84C015AF-6 microprocessor
(a QFP version of the Z80?) is it possible to use the firmware code from
another TNC, such as the MFJ-1270, that supports other things like
KISS?

I would like to be able to run the HK-21 with Linux, but can't because
of the lack of KISS support.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated!!

Thanks,

Dave - N0ZLZ
