Personally I've seen that redhat don't release an "rpm" of each new
kernel release. If you are comfortable building a kernel there's no
problem downloading the tar.gz file, and compiling as normal.
rpm will not be aware of these "modifications", but in practice the kernelg
image files and source don't affect that many things.
Just watch out for kernel, kernel-source, kernel-headers, and maybe lilo
rpms, as some files will obviously be inconsistent with rpm's view of the
world.
