Looking at the man pages for axparms again it was clear that you can
change almost all the kernel-given defaults. As it says in the Manual I am
writing you can place "axparms - do this" lines in your "start" file so that
with every boot the proper values are used.
So I looked and as expected you can set the "IDLE timeout value
(minutes" to any value between 1 and 100 minutes. As an experiment I first
typed:
axparms -parms ax0
This gave me a very nice list! It shows the 16 values that the ax port ax0
has. It is easy to read and understand.
Going back to the man pages I found the the idle timeout is
controlled by a command line key word -idle <minutes>. So next I decided to
change the timeout to 100 minutes. This was done by typing:
axparms -parms ax0 -idle 100
When I checked ax0 now has a timeout shown as 100!
I did not use the program "cat" to do anything. I used just cd and
more and man and such simple programs. It should be possible to use cat, but
I don't see that as being simple. To me KISS is best.
