Well, yes, there are disadvantages, but the information sender should be able
to decide the level of redundancy and robustness and configure this
accordingly. The information receiver should be able to dynamically adapt to
whatever the sender chooses. Several FEC protocols have this sort of
flexibility. However, I don't foresee needed to vary the settings depending
upon which other station we are talking to, but only by interface type. That
is, the HF and VHF settings could be different.
