I run my linux system with ax25 utils (Kernel 2.0.25, AX25-2.0.12a) with a
1200 baud TNC attached in KISS Mode. I used to run Jnos for DOS in the
dim and distant past, and I would have completely erased this indifferent
experience from my mind, except for 1 thing - LZW compression. Jnos will
compress SMTP and Text-Mode FTP transfers etc, which made quite a
difference to the bandwidth required to perform a particular transfer.
I dont miss this too much (when talking to local nodes), but there is
another Linux box a couple of hops away from me that I would like to have
regular access to - I was thinking of setting up something along the lines
of a compressed ip-ip tunnel to this machine over the air, so any packets
routed to or from this box would have compression applied (mainly going to
be telnet and smtp). Has anyone ever achived this, or done something
similar that I could perhaps try?
Hope everyone had a happy xmas, and a merry new nose :-)
73! Giles.
