Well as a newcomer to Linux, and all the joys, frustrations,
confusion etc, that goes with it, I have managed to recompolile
2.0.27 to meet my needs, along with ax-utils 2.0.12c and nettools
1.32alpha. This worked well, as I was able to follow the AX25 Howto.
I spent the last couple of days trying to compile 2.1.14 and ax-utils
2.1.9c and nettools 1.32alpha (not even sure if I need this with 2.1
kernels) but had no luck so I came back to 2.0.27. I would apply
patches to bring the system up to date IF I new how to!! Now I
realise that it is impossible for the developers/ supporters to spoon
feed all the users of the system, but at the moment Linux is a tool
to me to allow me to try to run an Xfbb, Tnos, Netrom and Chat system
on one computer, and I want (need?) to spend most of my time trying
to get the applications to run.

Guess I am wonf\dering off topic, but Terry asked for comments, and
as a user of the system and news group I felt I atleast owed him a
response. So in a nutshell, sure I'll use the patches to keep a
system I am slightly comfortabe with rather than use one which I will
be fighting to keep running til it is more stable.

Could some one point me towrds an area that supplies details on how
to apply patches, and while we're at it an area that explains what
modules are and how they fit in.

Sorry fo being so ignorant, but I guess we all need to start some
where

Thanks to all who take the time tosupport the systems
