I think from reading all that has been written, that you need to make sure
you have included all the nessacery options in your /linux/.config
You did mention that there were modules that wernt being loaded, so i
presume from this that you did not chose the correct options.
The options underneath are detailed with =y, if you use modules it will be
=m ( i think).
CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL=y <- if you say no here some options WILL not appeer.
CONFIG_AX25=y
CONFIG_NETROM=y
a little futher down in make config
CONFIG_NET_RADIO=y
CONFIG_MKISS=y <--- this is what i think is wrong....
