An alternative to this is a stand alone circuit that I use at a sites at
Svalbard and in northern Sweden. The computers at both places communicates
with equipment via a COM port. If the program stops the flow of data TO the
equipment also stops. Transferred to FBB and a TNC one will at least send a
beacon every 15 minutes or so.
My circuit contains a timer that can be set on any time up to an hour (a
normal industrial timer!). Any activity on the serial line from the
computer to the TNC will reset the timer.
Should FBB stop then also the beacon will disappear. The timer will do a
time out and push the reset button.
This system has been used for 2-3 years and is restarting the scientific
(in my case) equipment 3-4 times per week.
I will see if I can scan the diagram and send it as a bulletine this way.
