Well the tnc_dev and tnc_baud parameters are no longer in use. That was
at a time when CLX still started up the AX.25 services itself. Now there
are many other programs which are using the AX.25 interface so CLX is
not touching any of the hardware stuff today.
The AX.25 portion in the CLX code needs some rework but we are not really
specialists. It is a very old part of the software, I think from 1994 or
so. Franta never touched it again.
Two of the things to improve are:
1. How can we change the source callsign on an outgoing
connection? Up to now we are bound to the callsign defined
in the /etc/ax25/ax25ports file.
2. How can we use more than one AX25 interface?
with the AX.25 kernel stuff. I somehow solved the issue no. 1 above,
but we did not look into the code, how it was done. About a year ago,
I was told that changing the source callsign required root privileges
and this would mean, CLX or a part of it was going to run as root - not
a good idea.
